Sometimes when I look back through these photos, it feels like my mind is playing tricks on me. I was here… this actually happened… what the heck how did I ever get so lucky?! Dragonline Studios for a wedding is seriously one amazing place and one I will be fighting to photograph again.
We kicked the weekend off with a welcome cruise around Newport Harbor with all of the couple’s closest friends and family, gawking at the million-dollar estates and fantasizing about what happens behind their walls… taking in the breeze and enjoying some super tasty cocktails along the way. The following morning I joined the guys for a wedding day dip in the chilly waters behind the property and hiked along a few trails surrounding the rocky point. Betsy adjourned to the upper level of the compound where her and her girls took a casual approach to gearing up for the evenings’ celebrations.
They set the stage for a weekend experience crafted to fit the mood of an almost Wes Anderson campy playfulness… not too serious and yet still refined where needed. It didn’t hurt that the beach scene alcove from Anderson’s “Moonrise Kingdom” was a few hundred feet away from the Dragonline Studios wedding location where the festivities were taking place. And yeah, you bet your butt we hiked over there for photos. Check out the later half of the gallery to see the insanely beautiful afternoon light glowing behind these two lovers.
Still to this day, I cannot believe Betsy and Willem invited me across the country to experience such a wildly cool two days of excitement and revelry. Getting to also shoot most of the day on film just added to the level of wow pumping in my brain.
The days we all experienced together is one for the books… a day I recap when my kids are grown and I need to prove I was once a legit cool guy.
